The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society was built on that same vision - of a better world - one without blood cancers. This year, I’m proud to be a part of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Student Visionaries of the Year Campaign, working to raise as much as possible for LLS’s mission, and to honor my cousin who lost the battle to leukemia at a young age.
Did you know?
- Every 3 minutes, someone is diagnosed with a blood cancer.
- Leukemia is the number 1 most diagnosed form of childhood cancer.
- More than 1.2 million people are living with or in remission from blood cancers.
The mission of the Leukemia and Lymphoma society (LLS) is: cure Leukemia, Lymphoma, Hodgkin's disease and Myeloma, and improve the quality of life of patients and their families.
As a global leader in the fight against blood cancer, LLS:
- Funds cutting-edge research.
- Provides free education and support for blood cancer patients and families.
- Mobilizes thousands of advocates to drive policy changes.
You may be surprised to learn that:
- LLS has invested more than 1.5 billion in the most pioneering science worldwide since 1949.
- Since the 1960s, 5year survival rates for blood cancers have increased by as much as 4 times.
- Since 2017, LLS has helped advance over 75% of the nearly 100 FDA approved blood cancer treatments.
- Since 2000, more than 40% of the new cancer therapies approved by the FDA are for blood cancer.
- In 2021, LLS provided $241 million in financial assistance to over 42000 blood cancer patients.
